Hello! Welcome to our very first blog post! Every Monday we aim to give you plant based tips, featured recipes used in Boycemode’s meal prep service as well as fitness advice. Our first post is featuring our favorite vegan, our very own Founder and Certified Holistic Health Coach, Sam Boyce.
1) What prompted you to adopt a plant based diet?
My own health. I had been on a yo yo diet for years. Some with limited success and others total failures. With plant based I realized that this was way beyond a diet, it is a lifestyle to live by. The health benefits never stop paying dividends.
2) What do you eat in a typical day?
Do you have an all time favorite food? First thing in the morning, our Garlicxir wellness tonic is a must (yes even on vacation). Eating for me is fueling my body based on my physical exertion for the day. I usually start off with a breakfast made up of monosaccharide carbohydrates (fruits and veggies plus a smoothie). Lunch will be my biggest meal of the day and dinner my smallest. A favorite food of all time is a tough one as I am a true foodie and love trying new things! I would probably have to honestly say seitan tacos with guac and chips yummmm!!!
3) What are some of the benefits from eating this way?
The benefits are endless! Eating the traditional western diet keeps our bodies in a perpetual state of digestion. Eating food with very low nutritional value is very taxing on our bodies. We literally connect cravings to food and therefore keep getting stuck in an endless cycle of making the same choices over and over again. Eating plant based correctly allows for the perfect balance of macro and micro nutrients which decreases low value cravings. The options are limitless! It is an incredible weight regulator as well.
4) What advice would you give someone just beginning a vegan diet?
The biggest adjustment that people need to overcome is the mental aspect of it. You have to first understand why you are doing it and accept that you may have setbacks. For most it is literally reprogramming the way you look at food and nutrition. Add as many colors as possible. Remember that here are substitutes and often healthier options for all the food you have grown to love. Lastly there will be a palette change. Your cravings WILL change! Don’t compare your new nutritional regimen to all the foods you’ve committed to giving up.
5) What makes Boycemode unique over other meal delivery businesses?
Boycemode is not just a meal prep service but rather a complete nutritional education. We want our clients to enjoy the food and we also want them to know why eating this way is so beneficial for themselves as well as for our planet. Boycemode was founded on my own journey to living a healthy life. It wasn’t all easy, there were many hiccups along the way (hence the above mentioned mental adjustment). It became a priority for me to share my understanding and experiences with all who can benefit. Our clients range from people just beginning their journey to experienced Personal Trainers who want to shift to a plant based diet.
